Welcome to New Zealand's inaugural Vegan Pie Competition

The New Zealand Supreme Vegan Pie Awards recognises and honours 7 award-winning vegan pies from around New Zealand.

The Supreme Vegan Pie Awards has been established in 2018 to showcase some of the amazing vegan pies that New Zealand has to offer. Plant-based vegan food has exploded to take centre stage in many New Zealand eateries due to its lower impact on the environment, and its benefits to both human health and animal welfare. Increasingly, vegan food is appreciated in its own right, for using healthy, tasty, clean ingredients, combined in innovative ways. New Zealand’s inaugural vegan pie competition is both cutting edge and classically Kiwi!

Judging will take place at The Butcher's Son on World Vegan Day, 1st November 2018, at 11am. Industry experts will be joined by celebrity vegan judge Emmett Skilton.


Judges include:
1. Gerrard O’Keefe Executive Chef at Hectors Restaurant, Auckland’s Heritage Hotel
2. Josh Barlow, Executive Chef at The Sugar Club, Auckland's Sky Tower
3. Emmett Skilton vegan actor, director and producer

Pies will be judged for excellence in taste, appearance, texture, pastry qualities and even glaze.

  • Vegan Steak and Vegan Cheese
  • Vegan Mince and Vegan Cheese
  • Vegan Chicken
  • Fruit pie - short crust pastry
  • Vegetable
  • Café boutique - any sort of pastry, shape, open or closed
  • Gluten Free - any sort of pastry, shape, open or closed
Plus a Supreme Award!

Conditions of Entry:

  • Pies must be commercially available from your company
  • We will deliver a box - two identical pies sent the day before, between 9am and 4pm
  • Ingredient list to be provided, must be all vegan*
  • Round, oval or square standard tins, 280gm max weight
  • Base paste bottom, flaky on the top
  • Registrations must be in by Oct 24th
