‘The Big FAT Lie’ is a kiwi documentary that explores how powerful plant-based nutrition can be for our health. It tells the story of Grant, who is rushed to hospital with a heart attack at age 58 and how he then discovered that eating the right food could turn his life around. Over the course of his journey Grant interviews 7 professors, 9 doctors, health charities, the Ministry of Health and numerous health business specialists. He also shares case studies of others with heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer and gastrointestinal diseases. "Grant Dixon’s film stands apart with its unique, homegrown feel. Vegetarian/Vegan food is tasty and nutritious and often cheaper to make than meat-based meals. Our cooking classes are aimed at growing your collection of non-meat recipes, and increasing your confidence to make them. Even the vegetarian dishes tend to favour vegan dishes, and with most there is the option to add cheese/eggs or not. Classes begin at 6.30pm at the café, and during the first part we show you how to make the featured recipes. At around 7.45pm we sit down to dinner, to share the dishes we have made. Participants are welcome to bring along wine to share, or juice, coffee and tea are available to purchase. Classes are limited to 12 maximum.
