I have always loved animals. I also loved eating meat and buying leather shoes. I failed to see the contradiction in this until recently.
One day, when I told a colleague that I was an animal lover and that I volunteered at the SPCA, he asked, “But do you eat them?” It didn’t take long for me to start questioning and digging deeper. A bit of Googling and lots of tears later, I knew there was no turning back. Gary Yourofsky is my hero. Everything makes sense in his ‘best speech ever’.
After uncovering how animals suffer just for my taste, vanity and entertainment, I was fully committed to not consuming animal products. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to be vegan, and how great I feel, inside and out. More importantly, the animals and the environment don’t have to suffer because of me.
