Welcome to New Zealand's Vegan Pie Competition

The New Zealand Supreme Vegan Pie Awards recognises and honours 7 award-winning vegan pies from around New Zealand.

The Supreme Vegan Pie Awards has been established in 2018 to showcase some of the amazing vegan pies that New Zealand has to offer. Plant-based vegan food has exploded to take centre stage in many New Zealand eateries due to its lower impact on the environment, and its benefits to both human health and animal welfare. Increasingly, vegan food is appreciated in its own right, for using healthy, tasty, clean ingredients, combined in innovative ways. New Zealand’s inaugural vegan pie competition is both cutting edge and classically Kiwi!

Judging will take place at The Butcher's Son on World Vegan Day, 1st November, at 11am. Industry experts will be joined by celebrity vegan judges TBC.

Pies will be judged for excellence in taste, appearance, texture, pastry qualities and even glaze.

  • Vegan Steak and Vegan Cheese
  • Vegan Mince and Vegan Cheese
  • Vegan Chicken
  • Fruit pie - short crust pastry
  • Vegetable
  • CafĂ© boutique - any sort of pastry, shape, open or closed
  • Gluten Free - any sort of pastry, shape, open or closed

Conditions of Entry:

  • Pies must be commercially available from your company.
  • Official pie boxes will be sent to the address you provided in your registration shortly.
  • Please send or deliver two identical pies per category on thurs Oct 31st between 9 and 4pm to; The Butcher's Son 204 Jervois Rd, Herne Bay, Auckland 1011
  • Please return the ingredient statement provided.
  • Round, oval or square standard tins must be used.
  • Pies may not weigh more than 280gm.
  • Pies must contain a base paste bottom, and a flaky pastry on top. (Cafe boutique and gluten free may use any kind of pastry.)
  • The same pie can not be used in more than one category.
  • You must include a copy of your commercial food handling permit, TFCP or National program number in the box with your pies.
