Calling All Pie Makers

Do you consider yourself to be a Master Pie Maker?

The Vegan Society Aotearoa is holding our fifth annual Vegan Pie Awards in November and we are looking for the best vegan pies to enter.

True cheffing is about using ingredients to create a taste sensation, the quality of the ingredients will make the meal. Pie making is no different and the best pies use quality ingredients.

Making vegan pies is just as easy as making meat pies, all it requires is a change of ingredients.

Most ingredients for vegan pies are easily found in your usual shopping places.

Herbs and spices are vegan, but do check your usual stock powder for milk products.

Massels stocks are vegan and you can buy a vegan pastry made by QFS in Invercargill. Bidfood, Gilmours and E.Pac offer good quality vegan food ingredients such as tofu, TVP (textured vegetable protein), all vegetable margarine, Orgran Egg Replacer, soy and coconut milk.

The key is being willing to try something new and experiment with different flavours and textures. Customers are often keen to try new things, so why not offer them a new taste? The number of flexitarians is increasing, so it is good to be able to offer quality food to as many people as possible.The younger generations are looking for more plant-based foods and the ability to move with the times is key in maintaining your business.
