July is Vegan Cheese Month

Have you checked out the delicious vegan cheeses you can find in any supermarket in Aotearoa? We are living in fortunate times, where there are many companies catering to plant-based cheeses, from artisanal nut and seed-based cheeses, using traditional cheesemaking techniques, to large volume, large taste blocks of cheese from feta to cheddar. You can even buy bags of shredded mozzarella for your vegan pizza. There is no reason not to try vegan.

In 2020 we started to call July our Cheese Month and in 2021 we held our first Cheese Awards to celebrate the increase in NZ made cheeses. We are happy to accept entries for the awards from any part of the world, they just need to be available in Aotearoa.

We are excited to see what delicious entries we gain in our annual Cheese Awards, for the fourth year in a row. How many of last year’s winners have you tried? Do you make a plant-based cheese that could wow our judges? Why not enter now?   Judging is on 29th July at Khu Khu restaurant in Ponsonby.

The plant-based cheese market continues to grow, as people are seeking kinder, healthier, less polluting, more environmentally friendly alternatives.

This year’s judges are our Award favourite experts, multi-award-winning executive chef & trainer, Jasbir “Jazz” Kaur and food and beverage industry judge Aaron Pucci, sausage and cheese loving vegan comedian Tom Sainsbury, and professional international cheese judge Franco Sessa.

We have all heard it before… “I could never go vegan, I love cheese too much”, well there are some awesome vegan cheeses to be eaten, so do try them out on your omni friends and family, see if they will enjoy them. The plant-based market needs our support, so go buy some delicious vegan cheese 😊
