Paraoa Kakano – Seeded Bread

Note, prep time does not include 'sit' time for bread - about 2-3 hours.


  • 1 c sunflower

  • 1/2 c linseed meal

  • 1/3 c pumpkin seed

  • 1/3 c psyllium husk

  • 1/4 c chia

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 c buckwheat flour/ gluten free flour

  • 1/2 c white rice flour

  • 1/4 c tapioca flour/ chickpea flour

  • 400ml water

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

  • 2 tbsp coconut sugar(optional)

  • 1 handful of kawakawa(blessed)

  • Other veges you may want to flavour it with: onions, leek, greens, corn, beans, lentils, chickpeas, potato, kumara.
    Add herbs, vegan cheese, liquid smoke, smoked paprika or any other flavour profiles.


  • Mix all the dry ingredients together.
  • Mix all the wet ingredients together.
  • Add wet and dry very quickly as the mixture will start to set fast!
  • Put into baking tray or mould and smooth top
  • Let sit for 2-3 hours, then bake at 140° C for 40 minutes, then flip out of mould, bake for further 40 mins.
  • Let the loaves cool on a cooling rack to avoid a soggy bottom, once cooled slice and freeze for future use.
