The Eat Right Symposium
- 21 June 2023
- The Vegan Society
A huge thank you to all our amazing and diverse speakers, who presented at our very first Eat Right Symposium for high school students at Tapac in Auckland.
New Zealand’s first Eat Right Symposium took place at TAPAC (Western Springs) on June 7th 2023 from 9am to 1pm. Students from schools around Tāmaki Makaurau were invited to come along and learn how what we eat impacts our health, the environment and animals.
A morning of inspiring talks, a panel discussion, and delicious food! Students were able to meet other young people who are passionate about health, sustainability, and animal rights.
The lecture series opened with a guest appearance by Steve Abel of Greenpeace followed by talks kindly given by our speakers Samah and Pere Huriwai-Seger, Michael Davis, Jason Shon-Bennet, Oli Allen, Alice Shopland, Irina Miller and Patricia Paynter.
We had great feedback from teachers, speakers, and students, about the content of the talks which covered the many factors that contribute to our food systems, what is wrong and how we can fix them. The talks culminated in a very lively and interactive panel discussion.
Catering was kindly provided with much thanks by Tart Bakery.
The delicious goody bags were supplied with cheese by Angel Food and Bennetto chocolate 😊
We are very encouraged to do this again next year! If your school would like to be invited next year, please contact Amanda Sorrenson on Amanda@vegansociety.org.nz
