There are so many products available in the supermarket that are great for BBQs, pasta bolognese, shepherd's pie, and sausage and mash type meals etc.
Here is a selection to help you know what to look out for.
Vegie Delights are all vegan and made in Australia or New Zealand. Sausages, mince and bacon products are in the fridge, burgers and paties in the freezer, tins usually near baked beans on the shelf.
Frys are in the freezer section and most supermarkets stock a good range but some will differ. The sausages are a meaty flavour and great for BBQ, brunch, dinner, anything! The burgers are also great. Chicken style strips are great in salad. They also have pies! The whole range is vegan.
Bean Supreme are also a New Zealand company. They too have sausages, mince, luncheon, and tofu, all located in the fridge section in supermarkets. Not all products are vegan though so check the labels. The new black bean beetroot burgers are great.
Linda McCartney products are from the UK. Not all are vegan so check the ingredients. Stocked in some supermarkets in the freezer and in the cruelty free store in Auckland, check their website for stockists.
Grater Goods is a vegan butchery and deli in Christchurch, NZ, specialising in fine vegan meats and cheeses. See their website for other stockists.
The Cool Gardener picks local over global, working with New Zealand gardeners who are as passionate about plants as they are. Most products are vegan, check the labels.
Gardein are available in some supermarkets, V1 vegan shop, and cruelty free shop. All in the freezer section there is a huge selection of products such as fish style, meat balls, burgers etc.
The cruelty free shop Auckland and V1 Vegan Shop Wellington have many other types of meat substitutes that you may not be able to find in supermarkets, for example seitan (a wheat/gluten alternative to steak), other speciality sausages, deli slices, frozen products and more. Amino Mantra is a New Zealand based company making plant based patties. Black truffle and thyme, fijan tumeric and cumin, caramelised garlic and chive, cmokey bbq, sundried tomato and basil.
Alt Meat Co is a New Zealand based company. Their products are available in the fridge in some supermarkets. Their website is great at explaining why alternative meat is needed for the future for environmental reasons.
Sunfed is a New Zealand based company, new in 2017. With just a handful of all natural wholesome ingredients, and clean water-based proprietary techniques, they turn protein-packed pulses into delicious meaty goodness. That's it!
Soy Works are New Zealand based. This range has gluten free sausages, cajun or herb. Found in the fridge section. Not all their products are vegan.
Wheaty Spacebar Chorizo are found in the shelves in organic type shops and online at the cruelty free shop (who also stock more wheaty products). Great sliced up on homemade pizza. Also try in pasta or salads. The company has a wide range of products but not all are available in NZ.
